Mrs. Melissa John To All Instructors
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach writing at HHSW during the 2019-2020 school year. I have a BA in English and French and an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I began my teaching career 22 years ago as a high school English and French teacher in Mississippi. The Lord then led me to China to be a missionary/English teacher in a university in Yanji. After I returned to the US, I taught ESL freshman composition at the University of Alabama. I later met my husband and moved to Illinois. Here, I worked as an ELL teacher in grades K-8 in District 204 and as an ESL instructor for adults. I "retired" from the classroom after the birth of my first child.
I now have three children ages 11, 10, and 7. We began our homeschooling journey six years ago as my husband and I realized that we wanted our children's education to have a biblical worldview. We desire that they grow in the knowledge of God and His word as they are learning their school subjects. We have been a part of HHSW for one year, and this community has been a blessing to all of us. We are grateful for the teachers and families here who have become a part of our lives.
